Circa: 1967 Manufacturer: Western Stoneware Co.
Vintage Monmouth spatterware covered casserole pot. c:1967. 2 in store, price is for one. Very attractive dark tan with deep burgandy spatterware motif. Incised maple leaf logo on bottom, and the words: Monmouth, Ill USA. Note the old State abbreviation. The pottery company that made this is actually called: Western Stoneware Co., Monmouth, Illinois. Most people just refer to it as Monmouth. One tiny gouge in bottom rim which doesn't show or affect stance on one of them. These stand about 6 tall with lid on x 8.5 wide; or 3.5 tall without lid on. Lehner's book states that the clay used by Western is heat-resistant, and lead-free. I cannot verify that since I did not produce this stoneware. Western Stoneware Co. was only in business from 1906-1985. The pitcher in one of the photos is sold separately. estcs |
