Museum quality vintage Koppit basket. Fabulous, beautifully made, tightly woven basket called a 'Koppit' basket; good condition, only the strap handle is showing some wear. Internet research shows an identical basket on 2 museum sites, one has a collection of items from the 1890's; and these are said to have been made in the Phillipines. This basket has a nice darkened patina on it. Not sure of what the function of this basket was, but it is very tightly woven and well-made. This basket has three compartments, maybe for sewing items or fishing or pipe & tobacco basket? Each compartment fits into each other and the woven handle holds it all together. It is 9.5 long x 6 high x 4 wide. When you pull the top piece up, there appears to be some type of resin on each of the four bottom corners of the next basket part and there is a shallow basket, then when you pull that piece up you get a deeper basket.
