Circa: 1800's Manufacturer: unknown
Antique flow blue earthenware plate. This gorgeous plate has markings on the back but I do not know who the maker is. It is marked: -1- and if looking one way it looks like a number 53, turned other way and it could initials E ?. The reddish flowers and blue leaves are hand painted under glaze; the larger green leaves appear to be transferware. This plate is 10.75 wide. It has some flaws as expected for earthenware; crazing, crevices, slight discoloration, and minor scratching. Overall, it displays very nicely. The floral arrangement in the urn design looks somewhat oriental. I think this is a rare early piece since it is earthenware, not porcelain and has some hand painting. Most of the flow blue pieces I see are porcelain with transferware and are from the latter Victorian period. 6/13smc |
