Lovely Victorian jardinaire by The National China Co. Marked on the bottom: The National China Co., E.L.O. (East Liverpool Ohio). c: 1899-1915. Large jardinaire; perfect for ferns, real or faux! This company was taken over by Harker Pottery Co., then became American Chinaware Co. which went out of business in 1932. This is a large jard for ferns, orchids, etc. The colors are beautiful on it; teal blue/green. It does have some flaws as shown in the photos; one hairline, some crazing and some stray lines; see photos 5-6 and enlarge them. I believe part of it is hand painted, other flowers are transferware. It is china, not porcelain. It stands 8 inches tall x 9.5 wide. The flaws are not really noticeable when it has a plant in it and I think it looks gorgeous despite the flaws. But, if you need perfection, don't buy antiques. 3/17 |
