Circa: 1914 Manufacturer: Alfred Meakin
Large antique Alfred Meakin pitcher. c. 1914. It is 12.5 tall; and I believe it is ironstone, though not marked ironstone. It is not porcelain. The bottom backstamp is a blue wreath circling a unicorn and the words: Alfred Meakin England. It has some tiny black pepper sized dots on it, (hot ash marks that occur during firing), and a couple of bigger black marks on the interior bottom, see photos. It has some yellowing near bottom rim which does not show when the pitcher is upright and one tiny circular gouge mark on bottom rim, it has smooth edges so may have been there when it was made or it's a super old teeny tiny chip. This pitcher makes a great display piece if you collect vintage white pottery or ironstone; or you can add a large bowl and use it on an antique washstand or add a bouquet of flowers! 2/18 |
