Circa: 1800's Manufacturer: Mappin & Webb's
Antique Mappin & Webb's biscuit jar. Gorgeous jar with silverplate lid. Well hallmarked: Mappin & Webb's, London & Sheffield, (E or B in a shield), & M and 362, Princess Plate, Triple Deposit. It also has an incised #5 on the inside of the lid. The glass glows yellow under a black light and the glass is very nice and clear. The lid has some tiny tarnish dots and the bottom of jar has some light scratches. Age estimate: 1890 to 1916. It stands 6 inches tall up to lid rim; 7.5 tall to top of the finial. Great for a wetbar to store pickles, scones, tea biscuits, etc. The lid also has a vent apparatus on the interior which I forgot to photograph. A beautiful antique jar to use or showcase! 4/23scs |
